    Schwerin U-Boat Hardware Comparison

Here are 2 Schwerin U-Boats with "similar" reverse hardware. However, it appears one has a different pin and maker mark. Are these both considered ok? Just variations?

    Schwerin Berlin

    Hi Darrell,
Schwerin did use different size maker marks and I have noticed a slight difference in pins too.

Look at my two examples and you can also see the slight differnces. I will say this, the pin on the 2nd U-boat posted by you really does have a different look to it (it looks thicker).

    Regards,
    Jody

      U-boat

2nd type by Schwerin Berlin-notice the maker mark (Vet obtained almost 35 years ago): Do you see the flaw up the upper wing? I jhave noticed this on many 2nd pattern U-boat badges. Several have suggested it was caused by driving in the pin on the hinge.

          Thanks Jody,

It appears that most of the Schwerin "early" pin styles have a shape similar to a "65" EK1. Whereas, like you say, the second one I posted above is almost like it is a "26" EK1 style (thicker at the base)

            Darrell,

We had a long thread a year or two ago comparing all the different variations of the Schwerin U-boat badge including the size of the letters, eagle head, top wing and catch. Do a search and you will find it here someplace. We came up with 4 basic styles. John

              Darrel,

while we are on the topic of Schwerin's i beleive this is the later or third type of the tombak badges. It is unmarked and has a long silver pin and an upside-down hinge.

              Regards,Martin

                Hi Martin,

I thought I read somewhere, where people leaned towards this type as a Deumer? Maybe got my wires crossed?

                  Darrel,

actually it was Steinhauer & Luck. There was a resemblance between this particular badge and one illustrated in a period S&L catalog.
Most beleive it is a late pattern tombak Schwerin.

                  Regards,Martin.

That could have been. Memory is fading

We discussed this badge, although without a mark, in this thread:
