    Hello Ron,

I do not know for sure. I had kept many of the badges in inert Mylar storeage bags, of archival quality, and they still have faded. I believe it is only time, and the atmosphere, that makes them loose their finish from microflaking away.

I do wrap the foam backing in Mylar, but the blue is a fuzzy surface is on fine foam also. I wish we could halt the deterioration, but I believe we cannot, without putting a clear coat of laquer over the badges. This is not something I wish to do, although I know collectors who use a neutral finish Krylon on all their badges.

    Best regards,
    Bob

      destroyer makers

Bob..I'm curious to know what different makers for your destroyer collection you've been able to acquire. I've started collecting these myself.

Hey Bob super nice! I really like the clasps. I have thought of putting some of my medals in frames, but I like to look at the reverses and handle them at times. I think you are right about the zink finishes fading, probably nothing to stop it except a coating.
        Regards,
        Brian

I guess in a bank vault is the only safe way to store them. That collection most likely took

          1) years of your life to assemble
          2) 1st, 2nd or maybe even 3rd wife
          3) an who knows how much $$$$

I know one collector who museum mounted (for presentatioin not storage) his entire collection then placed it in a vault.

He missed them so he acquired a whole truck load of fakes and re stamps and then painstakingly replicated his entire original collection one badge at a time and had them hanging in his house.

Of course a short time after he completed the 'replicated' collection some-one broke into house and cleaned them out.

The joke was on thief though as he engraved "This Is A Fake' on the back side or front side of all the replicated badges.

          Love you collection.

              Hi Bob

Great collection! Any chance we can see closeups of the sawfish badge? I think I've only ever seen photos of one purported original, does it have the smooth fins?

              Thanks
