    Unmarked Coastal Artillery Badge

    Guys,

Take a look at this one, l got home last night andthis badge was waiting for me in the post. I must admit my first impressions are not too positive about this one, but perhaps I'm being paranoid.

My first concern were several small holes on the swastika and wreath, along with evidence of some filing being done on the swastika. The gold gilt has been placed over these holes. If it was zinc pest surely the gold would not remain over this.

Second, in some areas around the wreath and eagle the gold gilt/paint looks to have been put on really heavily and looks pretty messy.

Look at the build up of of dirt and what also looks to me like overspray of gold around the guns housing and the breach block. Never seen anything like that!

Another point, it only weighs 20.6 grams.

When I first saw this one I was happy with it, but now I have real doubts, unless someone can reassure me.

Is this just shoddy workmanship on a late war badge from the LM company, who had evolved out of the HA company?

    Anyway here comes the photos

Hi Mark going off those pics I would say there is a good chance it is an original . A closer look at the eagle and side on shot of the hinge would help. Have revised my maker the hinge looks as if it maybe crimped in is that the case it cold be an H.A. My eyes have gone, one too many beers so its off too bed. Still believe it to be original. Now wheres my pillows.

                Hi Mark,

I don't see anything that jumps out as wrong, but I would like to see good close-ups of the swastika area to see what you're referring to with the holes.

                  Guys,

The base of the catch is raised slightly above the reverse of the badge. I'll get a better close up picture of the swastika to try and show what I can see in the magnifying glass.

                  Cheers,

                  Mark

I think this is another one of those CAs that are appearing, purporting to be Aurich badges.
I do see a difference in this badge and a marked Aurich badge.
In my honest opinion it is a genuine badge that has a bad repaint job to the wreath.
I am new at this game but learning fast..any pointers would help
                        All the best
