I compared my two badges on the outside to the one Frank H posted in another thread and they seem to me to be a perfect match, except Frank H got a minty one. The one in the middle is a minty one also Schwerin marked. Did the world according to Schwerin change in this middle example? All three are riveted. Ship, wreath look very similar to me. Or is it a cute fake? Thanks!!!

Hi Brians,
the zinc ones look good to me, although I only have the zinc one myself, up to now that is.
The " buntmetal" looks OK at first glance but there do seem to be accute differences in the globe (graduation lines and Italy, UK)

I thought so too Bill. Some 'nice' copies have come out of India I hear in the 90's. They fire gilt but they don't do the 10x magnification on the details. At a gun show they'd fool people because you're standing there thinking, looks good, might be good, but the world would have had to change in the Schwerin shop for that badge to be good. Thanks Bill. My conclusion also.

Hi guys,
Too much misinformation in this thread!!!
In the top image, the central "buntmetal" badge is a 100% reproduction - this is one of the "Cave Creek Specials" and is given away by the large, even lettering of the maker's mark, the huge hinge pin rivet, the different globe details and the NON-square cut-out above the sail.
All the ZINC badges posted in this thread so far look genuine to me. Even though the location of the maker's mark varies a bit, this is not a major concern for me as the FORM of the maker's mark is the critical thing.
In Bill's post, the badge he has called a repro is, imo, a genuine badge, just unmarked and NOT made by Schwerin. This type of badge has been discussed in the past at lenght. Lorenzo produced some great detective work which indicated that the badge was POSSIBLY produced by Juncker.

Hi Skip,
If you go to the crosses forum and look in Frank's new moderator welcome thread, you'll see two tombak ("buntmetal" - I dislike the vaguaries associated with that term!) Schwerin Aux Cr Badges imaged - one by Frank and the other by Mark Miller.

I agree with Mike Kenny that the unmarked auxiliary posted by Bill is authentic. Bill...why do you say it is fake?Visit my Badge Collection: http://lbmilitaria.homestead.com/home.html
