An original with factory soldered on set-up exists and looks like this.

This is very frustrating! I thought I had a real one for sure. I have the incredible luck of finding the most recently found and better fakes out there. Is there no hope for this badge? I have been told that it is a very late war, kriegsmetal badge. Please tell me that this type of hinge assembly is possible on a late war version.

Well, I quit!! I haven't spent a dime on German militaria in a year because of the fakes I have been sold. This was my first foray back into German stuff. I can't afford to collect fakes, so back to British and Commonwealth items I go.
Thanks for your input guys, I do appreciate it.

The badge that started this thread is a cast copie of the oval crimp PAB. The obverse looks very convincing but they messed up the crimps and the set-up, which is only logical due to the fact that such crimps are just impossible to copie if you don't have the original tooling. The hinge is soldered on top of the crimp and the bottom crimp doesn't exist at all.

Sorry to be dense here guys but I am not 100% sure what you mean by the crimps being messed up and the bottom crimp not existing at all. Can someone please explain what I need to look at on my badge to see this?
Is it possible to get a side shot of the hinge assembly of one of your badges so I can compare to mine.
I have been told that this is an authentic very late war kreigsmetal PAB. Is this even a possibility?
I may be delaying the inevitable here, but I was sure I had a real one and I can't afford to be buying fakes.

Try not to get to bent out of shape, I know it sucks to get burned, but we have all had it happen to us before. The fakes today are a minefield and you really need to keep up on the good copies or you will get boned. Dont give up though, just keep on truckin

I spent so much time and effort on this PAB and still got burned. That's what frustrates me more than anything else. I can't seem to get the finest of details that is needed to get a good one.
This one is my fault as I bought it as original. I don't think I own an original German badge and it is expensive to keep collecting fakes.

Check it out, on your badge the catch is soldered to a round area, at least it looks that way from the picture. Both the pin assembly and catch should be crimped into the badge as shown

You can maybe start buying more on the estand..Most of us started the same way you did, some of my old stuff I had for 20 years before I found the forum and found out it was no good. Its frustrating I know however you can find original things and it just takes time and a lot of research on forums such as this one.

Thanks Sal, that makes it 100% easier to tell. I see it now!

Just grasping at straws now, could it be a replaced catch and pin system?

Thanks again for the help. I will not purchase any more PAB's without doing more research and posting here first. Lesson learned.
                              Regards,
                              Jeff
