    Hi Guys,

Thanks Skip for posting these pics that clearly underline what you already explained to me. Also on Franks bronze BM example the remains of the steg are clearly visible. The only one that doesn't seem to feature them is my early silver example but then again in the early days they probably had more time to preform a perfect handfiling job.

Just noticed that I don't have a reverse pic of Franks bronze expl in my files but I found these badges from Jeff's collection. Again the silver one show's clear traces of handlfiling but since this is an earlier badge it again is less obvious then on the later bronze grade to the left.

And one more that I just found in Winkler's archives. Early (round wire catch) with fairly limited filemarks. Another one that fits my theory that more and more filing was needed as the die aged................

          Guys,
I find this all very intresting. When I get home tonight I will post my bm type one daisy. It shows all that has been posted above. I aways wondered why the hell it looked so bad about the gun tube and the filing marks on the reverse. It all makes perfect sence now.

Reverse. Pretty nasty looking gun tube to say the least.

                A couple more.

You can easily see where the muzzle of the gun tube was once joined to the wreath on the silver one; not too evident but visible on the bronze one.

Thank you, sir! Looks like the same worker who filed out the end of your gun tube also did the same work on my silver one. Must have been on a Freitag afternoon, and he was looking forward to Bier and a Fräulein!

On the right hand side, when viewed from the reverse of the buntmetal ones, you can see were they´ve filed out around the turret and removed any flash. On the zincer they appear not to have bothered anymore.

                            Morning guys,

Thanks for posting these additional badges. All 3 seem to feature the later catch set-up and as such the heavy handfiling is consistent with the evolution theory.

Good point on the differences with the zinker Skip. That last zinker shows very little handfiling and somehow I like to believe that this badge might have gone for the bin straight away. I can imagin that when the steg between gun and wreath on this example was removed a part of the inside wreath broke off, making further handfinishing redundant.
