JFS CCC in bronze for opinion please

I have been offered this CCC by JFS, unfortunately i cannot upload the photo of the rear of the badge on here, it is corroded but may be alright with some vaseline. Looking at the front do you think that it is ok? Thanks for looking. Nigel

Looks like an original 1st Pattern JFS clasp, but not in the best condition.

Unless its really cheap, I would suggest waiting for another. JFS clasps are pretty common, and usually found with most of their finish remaining so it wouldn't be hard to find a better one that you will be happier with.

Hi Nigel,

Just based on the picture of the front, it looks like an original second-pattern JFS Close Combat Clasp. But heavily worn and corroded to the extent that parts of the clasp along the bottom, to the right of center, have been completely eaten away. In this condition it is not worth too much so I wouldn't buy it unless it is very cheap.

Are you sure that this is a first-pattern JFS? I would almost (almost mind you) be willing to bet that this is a second-pattern clasp. What are you basing your opinion on? I know they are very similar from the front, but not exactly. Are you judging by the finish? I wish we could see the reverse of this one.

Basing it on the bayonet guard, typically 1st Pattern are squared off like we see here whereas 2nd Pattern have a champferrd edge. It’s not a golden rule, but true 90% of the time. I am playing the odds

Thanks guys, I think that you are right it is too much money, the JFS is on the left hand side to the rear. I have the picture but it fails to up load, if you saw it you would not like it as it is corroded badly. I will buy something else

In general, JFS clasps are pretty common to find. First Pattern clasps are indeed more uncommon to find than the 2nd pattern, but they are around and I wouldn't call them rare. They are just a bit more uncommon to find in comparison to 2nd pattern examples.
