Seems like the eternal defensive argument. "Prove that is it fake." This isn't the criminal court system where you are guilty until proven innocent. I would prefer it the other way around - Prove that it is real, especially if it is controversial. If I had a HA panzer badge with flat pin as found on most EKs, can you prove to me that this is a fake?

Denial ain't just a river in Egypt and I know it is hard to accept a badge one owns may not be genuine. If so much controversy exists on this badge, I would be hard pressed to want one in my collection as it will definitively be hard to ever sell. You will spend a lifetime trying to convince people of originality. Keep in mind that even badges obtained from vet's families have produced badges that were not original.

The first step would be to post a picture of the badge. As of yet both individuals that support this badge have not even provided a picture of the ones they have that they say are real. As these are being sold for dirt as fakes, if they compare favorably to the ones posted here as known fakes, I would assume that both of you would be in the market to take all of these ball hinge HA badges off of our hands at a very reasonable price, say $100 each? That would surely be a bargain price for a genuine HA badge.

Of course other than a pretty pointed and somewhat in your face argument that these are real, I've also not read anything as to an opinion from our two Maryland posters on how they feel about the posted HA ball hinge badges. Could you at least provide your opinion on whether you think these are real or fake? You should easily be able to compare them to your badges and provide an assessment. This would not necessitate the posting of pictures of your badges and should be quite easy to do as the pics posted are very clear.

It would be interesting to find out how many of the voices out there that are pooh poohing this site as being populated by uninformed individuals, are disgruntled collectors that have been told their posted items were reproductions. As several members here have written books that are considered important and key collector reference works, I certainly would like to hear the credentials of those that are calling them uninformed.

                Hello kreiger123,

In all seriousness, I see from your member profile that you are a youngster, born in 1987, and a student. I think it's great that young people are interested in this hobby because someday I will probably sell off a good part of my collection, and it's good to know that there will be people around to keep the hobby going. Since you are a student, you know about homework. You need to do yours. There is a wealth of knowledge and experience on this forum, and you should take advantage of it and learn. This hobby is a continuing learning process for all of us. All of us have learned some hard lessons when we bought items in good faith, only to find out later, that we had been taken advantage of. We do not like it when this happens to us, and we don't want to see it happen to you either. This forum is here to help us all as a collector community. Serious collectors want to own original items, and we despise the people that produce fakes, as well as the ones that intentionally sell fakes as the real thing. So if you want to be a collector, please give this forum a chance and learn from it. There is a lot of help to be had here and the best of intentions. If at the age of seventeen, you are so sure of this hobby and know more than the rest of us, I'm afraid you will be learning some very hard and expensive lessons in the future. I don't like it when a young person gets burned and then gives up the hobby. There needs to be a future, so good luck and best regards! Tom

i havent gotten around to it yet, you know some people do sleep.

You know, my PAB could be fake but i have had many creditable people tell me that it was real including the vet who sent it home to his wife during the war. Do you really think i would lie to everyone about this and try to start a rumor about these badges....no i wouldnt do that.

If someone could please tell me how they know that the aurich badges are fake then please do so i can figure it out for myself and not have someone else tell me if it is real or not...you said there was a lot of learning involved in this hobbie so if you could please explain your side of this discussion a little more then just telling me that it is a fake so maybe i can learn from it.

Almost every dealer sold a good number of them when these arrived on the market. By now, you would expect word has spread about this fake, but....

Nobody who starts in this hobby can know everything right from the start, nothing wrong with that. But if you are new at anything in life, you should learn to listen to the ones who do these things a bit longer than you.
                        Cheers, Frank
