    AURICH ball hinge copie

    Hi Guys,

I'm trying to help out a collector in returning a Aurich ball hinge PAB copie. The seller won't take it back without proof that it's indeed a fake.

I only handled these badges on shows but never took measurements of them and I also remembered that they were quite heavy, made out of the wrong material and flatbacked if I'm not mistaken.

Do any of you guys have such a badge laying arround, if so could you provide me with the exact measurements and weight. I then could compare these with the original and provide our fellow collector with some info that would help him to get his money back.

    thanks in advance

    KR

    Dear Philippe,

Even that will not be "proof" for a guy unwilling to accept these are fakes. They love to say it is an early variation with a better hinge and made out of better metal. I am convinced that EVERY professional dealer in this business does very well know these are fakes and buys them exactly as that. The fact that he wants "proof" only stresses this, IMO. Probabyl a lost battle againsta guy with such an attitude. I would inquire if he is willing to accept a Detlev expertise and then go that route.
    Cheers, Frank

Here are some pictures of a BAD (!!!!!) HA Panzerbadge I had in my BAD files.
To the dealer who this concerns (if the link is to be given him) : "IT'S BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

P.s I think the images come from Mike Pinkus' site...I hope you don't mind.

Here ya go, Philippe, from my own collection... this was sold as a repro and I bought it as such for research, for DM40 quite a while back.

Completely flat back, made from a white metal not zinc, very shiny (but not "chromey") finish on the front that has acquired an odd gold-toned tarnish.

            60.4mm x 42.1mm, 36.2 grams.

Like Frank said, only putting the bad one beside a good Aurich PAB would be convincing, and that might not work with this dealer...

            Regards,
            Greg

Thanks Greg, that should do and I already can see that the weight is completely of. I'll make a compare with the originals tonight.

Like Frank wrote if the dealer is unwilling to accept a return it will be very difficult to convince him otherwise but at least I wanted to give it a try and at the same tile gather some more info on these copies

Being 100 % flat at the back should be a consern as well. These are reproductions.
Here is yet another one of these fakes.

                  Cheers.

Hermann Aurich did indeed produce BALL HINGE badges this was proved correct by Jamie Cross about a year ago when a whole catche was found in an abandoned warehouse in berlin. It's posted in one of last years or the year befores "military forum". Also ground dug items exist of this variation exist. This whole thing about the ball hinge repros was started repros coming out of Hungary appeared on the market so everyone believes now every one is a fake. THIS IS NOT CORRECT DO YOUR HOMEWORK.

I won't say categorically that Aurich never produced a true ball hinge badge because "you never know," but I will say that all these ball hinge PABs that we show in this thread are fakes!

I think I get an A on this homework...

                        Wyatt,
The previous posted Herman Aurich badges with the ball hinge are all fake. The construction is wrong. The weight is wrong. The material used is wrong. Mr. Cross is wrong if he accepts these PAB's as orginal. I suggest sir, that it is you who needs to go back to school if you accept the previous posted badges as the real thing.

What? You guys don't trust a dealer to search out the truth of these fine badges?
I am shocked!!! A dealer would never try to "authenticate" crap and then sell it.

                            Hi,

These "Aurich" repros were exposed as fakes from eastern Europe in the English language version of Militaria Magazine in March 1995 (No 14).

WYATT1939 - maybe you can post some pics of these genuine ball-hinge Aurich PABs for comparison?

                            Regards

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Mike, This is off the subject but you mentioned the Militaria Magazine in your post. Someone has offered to sell me 25 old issues of this magazine for $100. Is it a good magazine and is that a fair price?
