            Hi Mike,

How can you put this type of finish in a timeframe?

My bronze JFS's all have a dark chocolate finish. Same type as JFS IAB's in bronze. This finish would be too light for me.
            Kind regards,
            Giel

I agree it would be hard to put a time frame on the finish

                What?

                Dear Giel,

                Thank you for your posting.

"Earlier examples feature a plated light gold/brown colored wreath with a dark gray/brown panzer..........later examples received a darker toned brown wreath" Surely you are not suggesting that de bock is wrong?

The same color variations of JFS exist with their CCCs.

                Mike

                  Hi Mike,

The only observations that can be made with these pieces regarding the timeframe they fall in are the details on the paws. If you want to follow Phil's book, your piece is indeed an early one and should have a plated finish with grey/brown tank which is imo not the case. The finish on yours isn't gold/brown either, it's rather light brown.

All the earlier pieces with complete intact paws I have handled had a different kind of finish. The tank and wreath always differ in finish, while the badge you posted seems to be sprayed in one bronze finish.
                  Kind regards,
                  Giel

                    Die flaw

                    Dear Giel,

                    Thank you for posting.

As many of us have embraced Mr Maerz' die flaw conclusions, would you not agree that the production time frame can be established by the progressive wear to a particular die?

Yes. But that doesn't solve the finish question in this case. But I suppose if you are happy with the piece I won't be the one that stands in the way
                            Kind regards,
                            Giel

                              That was my first thought...
