Just picked this up right out of the attic of an estate sale and I'm hoping someone can help me ID exactly what it is. IMHO everything attached to the board is unquestionably 100% original, but to be honest I'm just not sure what to make of it. All of the awards and medals are held on to the board with very old string, the drivers badge and campaign shields were attached using their pins, and there's no doubting that a fair amount of care was taken to affix and label everything. The finish and patina on several of the items looks amazing - particularly on the bronze CCC
EKII and the campaign shields - and while the finish on the EKII Spange, the KVK's and the Red Cross medal has taken on a very heavy patina, it looks as though everything is factory new/unissued. Worth pointing out is that the Red Cross medal has an Austrian annexation medal ribbon.
It would appear as if to be some sort of presentation piece; perhaps souvenirs liberated from a factory or depot center and brought home by a victorious GI which were later affixed to the board for display purposes? That it is numbered is kind of interesting, however the number seven is definitely not a "German seven" and so my guess is that the handwriting was done by someone who was other than German. Could this be some sort of salesman's sample, or factory presentation piece?
Not sure what else I can say - the pictures I took should give a good overview of the board itself and the individual items. Please let me know if you have any questions and hopefully we can figure out exactly what this is.
