    Opinions on PAB

I'm thinking about picking this one up. How does it look? I think it's an early bm Mayer but the catch looks odd. Thanks in advance.

Go ahead and pick it up. There is nothing wrong with that PAB.

Chet knows his PABs, and I can only agree with him, this is a fine original. The flattened catch is a common variation to see with these Mayer/Schickle PABs and can be found on their GABs and IABs as well.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Great finish on the front of that one. You should scoop it up.

            Hi Guys,

Nice original but is anyone else wondering why the obverse appears mint with polished highlights while the reverse looks heavily worn with the catch bent from usage?

            Best regards,
            ---Norm

I disagree about the catch being bent. The reverse side looks like patina. Maybe it was the angle in the first picture.

Fair enough. So was it usual for the Schickle PAB to develop patina on the reverse while the obverse finish remained pristine? I only ask because this wasn't the case with KM badges but of course the KM badges generally weren't hollow construction so it may not be a fair comparison.

Nice Original piece, i would snap it up as well!

The black patina of the reverse is very typical for a few mint hollow silver badges such as Schickle, P&L and S&H.
                  Kind regards,
                  Giel

Get it before it disappears! I really like the finish on it
