I don't have any questions about the badge but rather the issue of the replacement catch. I am not asking for clairvoyance but just any opinions whether this is likely a wartime replacement.

        Thanks, Dave

          Hi Dave,

Looks pretty old to me, so it could be wartime done. But honestly there is no way to know for sure.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks guys, I've had this badge for a few years and just recently realized the catch was not original, Duhh! I have learned a lot from everyone here over the last few years. Thanks!

                Hi Dave

Can you post reverse pics, one with the pin in the closed position and the other with the pin laying on the catch.

You might be able to see wear marks on the pin that line up with the catch, which might give us a clue.

                cheers

Here they are Graeme, The auto focus is hitting the larger surface so they're not as sharp.

                      Hi Dave

Thanks for taking the time to post them. Difficult to determine anything more from those.

As the other guys mentioned, hard to tell when it could have been repaired, but it does look aged and probably a very long time ago.

                      regards
                      Graeme

Hey you sneaked another two pics in while I was posting

The last pic seems to show an area on the pin that corresponds to the catch location, which would lead me to believe that the catch has been there quite some time.

                        cheers

Just because the catch is not the usual type found on this makers badge, doesn't always mean it couldn't have been from a short run production made with another jobbers catch . Its typical for this type to be mounted a lefty, and I agree with grame it appears old, has oxidation corrosion, which could always be faked, but in this case I think not. I think it could be an unusual variation , but feel the different catch isn't going to hurt the value , and since nobody knows for sure, for some it may be worth more , others may say worth somewhat less , so I guess until another pops up, its a crap shoot , and we will have to come back to this thread as more is discovered. I like it more than most screwed with badges posted here that have been repaired. . The catch to me does not appear replaced. This is just my personal opinion. I doubt we will all agree on this one .
