You are correct on the makers being Assmann and GWL respectively. Both are zinc based, hollowback badges and probably came out mid-war. GWL only made these in zinc, while Assmann's earliest PABs were "cupal" (tombac coated aluminum alloy). Virtually no finish remaining on the GWL, but enough (on the hardware), to let you know it was originally a silver grade --as well as your Assmann. IMO, the GWL is far rarer and the more desirable maker of the pair.

Both very nice and, as said above, good pieces.
I remember the days when prices only went up and up, these GWL's were considdered as one of the grails in the PAB collections. Quality/design wise they are no big deal, but with their set up and the typical faded corroded zink surface they are just something different. If I would see one for sale I would fall in the old habbit of taking it without looking at the priceKind regards,

I think Ken nailed this one exactly, GWL's are very rare and desirable compared with the more common Assmann. Condition is also very important, but I would go with rarity anyday.
