This PAB is the unmarked GWL PAB he want to discuss . Is this an original early GWL ? Thank you very much .

You are correct on the makers being Assmann and GWL respectively. Both are zinc based, hollowback badges and probably came out mid-war. GWL only made these in zinc, while Assmann's earliest PABs were "cupal" (tombac coated aluminum alloy). Virtually no finish remaining on the GWL, but enough (on the hardware), to let you know it was originally a silver grade --as well as your Assmann. IMO, the GWL is far rarer and the more desirable maker of the pair.

I can agree that GWL is more rare than zink Assman. I've seen few zink assmans on different forums for the past two years, and no GWL at all. Just statistics

Both very nice and, as said above, good pieces.

I remember the days when prices only went up and up, these GWL's were considdered as one of the grails in the PAB collections. Quality/design wise they are no big deal, but with their set up and the typical faded corroded zink surface they are just something different. If I would see one for sale I would fall in the old habbit of taking it without looking at the price
              Kind regards,
              Giel

                Hi Xiwan,

I think Ken nailed this one exactly, GWL's are very rare and desirable compared with the more common Assmann. Condition is also very important, but I would go with rarity anyday.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little
