Great thread, and a tough one to boot! I sat on the fence on this one because, a lot of good points were brought up to question this piece. The initial pics weren't as descriptive as one would like to see. The backplate, without any bluing (on the backside) was another good point, but not improbable, considering the crimping style is a later style for this maker --and a "possible" for a gold example. Let's be cool in the end is all I'm saying. This was no easy thread and that's just MHO.

I am the one who started this thread. Regardless of the expertise, the clasp still does not give me a "warm and fuzzy feeling". I NEVER said that your clasp was a fake and purposely did not elude my personal dislikes because I wanted to see what others had to say. My concerns were and still are with the obverse finish and the gold splashed on the obverse side of the backing plate.
I guess all I can say now is that this ccc would not be one for my collection.
Your responses in this thread definitely set a tone......

Hi Guys,

we tested the gold finish with acetone, it doesn´t come off. Actually, the gold looks much better "in hand" than on the photos. Naturally, it could have been applied at any point in time but adding the fact that the hinge/hook and pin all show gold finish we are convinced its an original gold clasp.
The supposed spill of gold onto the front of the backing plate is in fact not gold paint at all, its where the black finish has flaked off exposing the brass underneath (like you see on the reverse).

Just wanted to clear that up.
