Pair GAB Badges - Good or Bad?

    Fellow Members,

I have a pair of General Assault badges which I would like verified as authentic or fake so that I can update my log.

One is supposed to be by Assmann and the other by Rudolf Souval.

As you can see, the quality of workmanship is totally different.

Badges were obtained from different source at different times.

    Opinions please.

    Thanking In Advance.

    Regards ...

    Hi Hagwalther,

Both are probably originals, but it has to be stated that there are excellent copies (castings of the castings ) of the left badge available, the cast latest Assmann. I would at least suspect it is repainted. The Souval looks good.
    Cheers, Frank

      Thanks Frank,

I picked up the Assmann in October of 2002. Would the new copies have been available then?

        Hagwalther,
They both look good to me also. Your Souval has more finish than what is usually encountered.

          Hi Hagwalther,

I looked into it more deeply. Yes, the copies have been around in 2002. And yes, I think you Assmann badge is questionable. Here are just two saved examples of very many sold by one and the same German faker, "Afrikaheld". Note that his examples all have the heavy casting pits in the 10 and 2 o`clock position of the reverse. Your has those too.

Here are two more real Assmann General Assault Badges. The one on the left is mold #4, the one on the right mold #1.

                    Best regards! Tom

Other great examples by Tom! It is important to note that these late war badges were produced in a simple and rough way, but they were not crappy.
