I wonder why this is with a single pin, These where never worn by them self always in combiation with other medals.
I have always wondered the same thing. IMO, these were put together by collectors using the cased Flower War medals as examples. Even those were awarded to non-military recipients IMO.
Ron, I saw one of the 40 Year Army's at the SOS, just like you have, with the pin back, non mounted. The Luft that came off a medal bar and I'm not going to resurrect the discussion on the oak leaves

Possible they were shop display items as well. We see a lot of period photos showing single mounts as examples in the store. The display boards usually had a small ribbon and no pin, but sewn directly to the board.
