Just got this one in. I believe it is unknown maker #3, is that correct?

Looks like a nice, original Deumer to me...

        Hi Harry,

Nice original. Not sure of the number since I don't have Frank's book in front of me, but its a Deumer in my opinion.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

              Hi Harry

Is yours very worn, especially around the edges. I ask because of the severe lack of detail to many of the outside edge of leaves, the bayonet handle and talons..

Or is it thick finish or the lighting?

              regards
              Graeme

There is a lack of detail, so either thick finish or wear. The badge does have a shiny finish.

I purchased it and it looks right to me, but what is the actual thick finish? Is it a coating of silver, nickel, or what?

                    Thanks

Bumping this to top, since I figured 3 months of waiting for a reply wasn't being overly agressive.

                      Thanks

Made by Deumer, and looks like it got hit with a richly applied plating to the front -that's toned nicely with age. It looks like the plating faded to bare zinc on the backside, from where I'm sitting. It's been preserved well, since the plating has not "bubbled" from "gas off". Attractive piece all in all. I could be wrong about the "plating", as it could also be a late war "ali" or "radiator paint" finish which can patina somewhat with age. Hard to tell from these pics, but no probs with the badge, or the finish applied -either way.

                            Hi Pat,

Hard to be sure if it is a thick finish, or if it is just buffed so hard that it it making the zinc base metal shine like silver. Since there doesn't appear to be any finish at all left on the reverse, I have to think that the obverse is just buffed, bare zinc.
