I thought we had posted a "fake" Aurich badge sometime ago. And the main difference between the good and bad was the hinge on the bad was not crimped in enough. Otherwise it was near perfect. Anyone remember that?

Yes, I remember and I thought back then this was not a proper conclusion or proof, just an attempt to explain Detlev´s statement. I was not convinced back then that the PAB shown was a fake.
If there are fakes with the typical Aurich hinge, where are they? Not one at the Stuttgart show, not one at the Illingen show I recently visited. And I am sure, no member can produce one here in this thread. For all I know, they just do not exist.

        Dear all,
I am now holding the VERY badge that Detlev used for his "fake of the week".
The picture alone obviously was not conclusive enough and lead me to believe the badge is an original badge indeed and that Detlev must have made a mistake. He didn´t, the badge is a casting from an original badge. Good and big pictures show that fact immediately, even if you do not hold the badge.

hinge (it is actually crimped in in the same way originals are, just more sloppily done)

Detlev sent me another Aurich fake.
This one has much better detail, but is also a casting made of a quite flexible, soft metal alloy (lead content must be high):
