    A really good PAB fake?

    Hi everybody!

I recently camed across this PAB mm: DH
It's maybe easy for the experts here to point out the bad areas.
But for me who just collect badges for display on my uniforms, is it really hard...

Is it a old and common repro?

    Thankyou for taking time!

    Kind regards: Hasse Marnell
    (sorry for the horrible photos)

    Dear Hasse,

Since these fakes are good castings from original Hermann Aurich OBVERSES, the truth lies on the reverse side, which is all wrong for this maker (wrong ball hinge and position of maker mark e.g.)
    Cheers, Frank

          Dear Hasse,

Yes, that is what I expected to see. In any case (bronze or silver), an Aurich PAB has to look like this on the reverse (see below). The position of the maker mark is the same in this case, so focus on the hinge only. But your type of fake also exists with a AS in trinagle maker mark which would be in the wrong position then.

If memory serves me, we've only seen this fake in the bronze grade, is that correct?

This particular fake exists in a silver version, too. Over time the fake silver finish will take on an "old gold" look (at least mine did!)

The same front fake die but with the back marked AS in triangle I have only seen in bronze, but with two different hinges - a ball hinge like on the fake Aurich, and a "wrapover" hinge like on an Assmann PAB. This fake is probably made in a silver version as well, I just haven't seen one.

                    Regards,
                    Greg
