Dear Scott,


The conventional wisdom say's that this is a later (not late) war so called Zimmermann. Yours is an original in very good condition. If you look closely you will see that the original outlining of the raised areas for hinge and catch are still present.

Most certainly not Peter. I think chances are good that the original catchplate was used to form both base plate and catch out of one piece of metal on these badges. The employee who came up with that briliant cost saving idea for sure got a salary raise

Hi Gerd,

Don't recall ever seeing one but that doesn't really surprize me taken in to account the one piece construction and the very large soldered contact surface. Even if you tried you would have a hard time getting it off I guess.

What's the catch in your question Gerd ?

Here's another variation on the sc Zimmermann with a different style of catch. As Philippe says, you can see where the original raised guidelines for the more conventional (earlier) Zimmermann-style hinge and catchplate were. I didn't know if you actually had the bronze one in hand or just the images, and thought this might help show the guideline areas.

@Gerd: I think it is very hard to break this catch (if not on purpose) because of its construction. It is one piece (plate and bent up hook) and quite flexible and thin. I guess it will rather bend badly but not come off.

I thought the same, Philippe. Its a good construction and looks very stably. I haven´t seen one with broken catch too.
