    GAB Verdict?

    Hi there guys,

This has shown up on ebay and I am quite keen to buy it but I have never owned a GAB so I am not 100% on it. Can Anyone give me a quick verdict on it if possible?

    Thanks Again Guys

    Peter

I am happy with based on my current knowledge but anyone else's opinion will be appreciated.

      Hi Pete,

it is a nice original. The catch looks a little weird and might have been replaced at some point. I think it is quite unique, because there are no traces of a repair visible. Maybe you can do some additional pics of the catch.

      Regards,

        Hi Peter

I suspect it is a good one but with a catch replacement.

It is always nice to see straight on front and rear shots, plus good in focus shots of the hinge. This unknown GAB has a very distinctive hinge, so it would be nice to check with quality pics.

        regards

Haha, was in a little rush and forgot to actually mention that the seller has said that the hinge has been replaced at some point thus a low price for the badge. my bad for not mentioning that in the first post haha

Daniel makes a good point that there appears to be no trace of repair, so more pics would be good

            cheers

              ok Peter

hinges and catches have been mentioned, so better pics of those areas would be nice, just to see how good they are, but not necessary I guess if you are happy with repairs to the set up.

              cheers

Tis the hook that has been replaced. The hinge etc is fine... Forgive me for the not stating everything in the 1 message. Hangover plus nice badge for low price has got the better of me haha

The hinge looks to be cast as part of the badge to me and the catch looks nothing like a period repair as it has the same finish as the rest of the badge. I think it is a copy.

                    Hi Don,

I think the texture of the material is just right and as I would expect it to look like. Also the thin copper layer with the zinc base metal visible on the talons is hard to fake. But I agree that it is questionable without detailed pics.

I tend to agree. Very thin badge too for this particular maker. Odd.

We used to think zink bubbles/pest were hard to fake too. A clear side shot of the hinge showing the two halves of sheet metal and the retaining pin will tell all.

Hmmmm, I really like the look of this one, but the catch is definately throwing me for a loop. I see so many good details that I can't think this is a fake, but then again that catch is nothing I have ever seen on an original. Straight on pics are needed to be sure what we are looking at, and then a few closeups of the catch from different angles. Perhaps a factory-done repair??

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I think the hinge needs a closer look.
