Hey there guys, sorry for the long delay! I haven't been about for the last week.

Here are more photos of the badge.

Well there's a reason why it looked a little thin to me in previous photos and that's because the two halves somehow "moved' in the mold. It looks good from the obverse and appears copper plated beneath the finish, which is a good sign. As far as the hinge though, it looks pretty messed up and "tight", which makes it look like it's cast to the badge. The fact that the catch hook looks like some on modern "repos" looked suspect, but could also be argued as a replacement done long ago. IMO a "good" badge, with an offset casting and has seen a hard life.

...I suspect the pin's a replacement, as it looks a bit chunky and and formed by hand possibly...

Hinge is cast as part of the badge. IMO that means it is a fake.

Here's a "tight" hinge block from another deemed "original" on a previous thread...

Indicator #2 of a fake. Those holes are called cut outs for a reason. They are not part of any mold and are literally cut out during finishing.

As far as "buying" this off ebay? Wait until another "textbook" one comes along. They usually go for about $100.00 -$125.00 in decent shape. I wouldn't pay 10 cents for the one that started the thread anyway. There too common.

IMO it has to much green verdigris on different places which make me think of artificial ageing. And the eagles head is not a perfect match with unknown maker # 12.

                    Regards, Wim

In sum of the parts, there's just too many things about the badge that are odd for too common a maker, compared to other HTF ones in zinc and brass etc. --Not an investment piece at any stretch, even if by chance some component were original. You'd never make your money back on the shipping costs alone if you were to re-sell. But we're all allowed to be suckers once...
