Final score for the known wound badge makers sporting the same setup as the GWB in Jeff's collection:

          Pforzheim 5
          Vienna 4
          Idar-Oberstein 2
          Hamburg 1
          Mittweida 1
          Berlin 1
          Munich 1
plus a couple of unknown makers including Jeff's badge

So exactly as stated previously, a non-specific setup but favored amongst Pforzheim makers.

          Best regards,
          ---Norm

Nice work Norm!! Pforzheim is indeed the most prominent with this setup, but notice that Vienna is a close 2nd. However, this shouldn't be a surprise at all since the "Vienna Design" IABs and PABs are closely linked with the "Pforzheim Design" KM badges.

              Hi Andreas,

Well, as discussed in the this thread, it wasn't just the ground dug crimped 100-marked wound badges found in Gablonz along with the AS in triangle badges. There was also Adolf Scholze's original accounting books in Gablonz which showed W&L were major customers of Scholze.

(Sorry, not really relevant to this thread.)

              Cheers.

Missed a rather important one! Alois Rettenmaier, 16 marked, Schwäbisch Gmünd...

                    Hi Jeff,

Could you please verify what type of catch is on your gold wound badge from that grouping. It's not quite clear from this view, and I was just assuming it was the stylized "Pforzheim-P" catch. Can you show an end view?

                    Cheers.

Hi Norm - As you requested, the catch for the Gold WB. What say you, Rettenmaier or unknown Pforzheim?

                        Hi Jeff,

Because of the widespread use of the setup, as Andreas says, we can't be sure, but the statistics and your circumstantial evidence favour either a Pforzheim maker or Rettenmaier over in Schwäbisch-Gmünd.

                          Hi Tom,

A couple of other "soft" observations:

                          1) The "Pforzheim-P" catch, although seen in Vienna a lot was used by Pforzheim makers early on in the war on tombak Kriegsmarine war badges -- i.e. before Vienna even started making Kriegsmarine war badges, which began only in the zinc era. Along with the fact that the tombak Minesweeper and Destroyer design showed up in Pforzheim before appearing in zinc in Vienna, suggests to me that the flow of materials and designs was from Germany to Austria rather than vice versa.

                          2) Of the wound badges presented in this thread, all of the Vienna ones have a flat cut-off end to the main pin, whereas 3 out of the 5 Pforzheim badges and also the Rettenmaier have a pointed end like that on Jeff's badge.

                          Best regards,
                          ---Norm

One other thing to mention, I believe there are about 49 known makers of the wound badge, plus a number of unknown, so it would appear that slightly less than a third used the same setup as Jeff's badge.

.... and another thing to mention:

What counts more: 50.000 K&Q badges with this setup or 1.000 Fritz Kohm ones ?
                              Best regards, Andreas

Any chance you can post a photo of the back of the Westmark party pin?
