Ron I have to agree with the olive oil as George Peterson ,Ron Wolen and Daniel Liptak told me about it at least 40 years ago and it has worked fine with me.

That's a good tip and a new one for me. Besides...your collection will then have the delightful aroma of a fine Italian Ristorante!

For those of you interested, I put forth a theory that these flat back Heer badges (IAB, PAB, Flak) were all produced in the town of Pforzheim. If true, that will get us closer to solving the mystery of the flat back badges.

The evidence is still circumstantial, but very convincing. See link below for the thread on WAF KM Forum:

By the way, I applied Vaseline to the the IAB and Heer Flak and here is how they look 24 hours later. Quite remarkable The Heer Flak looks stunning once again. I only applied to the affected areas with a Q-Tip, not the whole badge.

EUREKA! I just made a discovery! The Police medals and the EK2 are marked "76", and not "16" as I had originally thought. The direct evidence to Pforzheim exists!

The maker "76" is Ernst L. Muller Pforzheim!

                      Hi Jeff,

That gold wound badge looks like it's by the same maker as this one in the Wound Badge Forum. I wonder if anyone can comment on the maker. The setup looks non-specific but "Pforzheim compatible" I'd say.

                      Best regards,

Any maker marks on the mini mother crosses?

The badges came up nicely after the treatment

                          cheers

The setup of the wound badge is NOT Pforzheim compatible .... this is the standard setup as it was used by all makers and has no connection to any specific maker or a special location.
                            Best regards, Andreas

Based on the unissued condition pieces and other finds verified by Pascal, there is strong evidence that the maker of the Narvik Shield is by Alois Rettenmaier.

See Narvik thread. It would be a logical assumption, that the other mint piece (the Gold Wound Badge or Gold driver's badge) might be from the same maker.

Here is the thread in the Shields Forum.
