    Look at pictures #4 and #8 again, guys. A good sign is (but it does not HAVE to be that way on all badges) that the finish on the catch and the hinge took on a slightly different shade of silver throughout the years, because of a different base metal. Can you see that? The whole catch and the whole hinge have a different shade of silver than the zinc body. Good sign. A recently sprayed badge would have the absolute same shade of silver all over.

      And while your looking at picture number 4 also note the developping green verdigris on the tombak catch base plate, also highly unlikely to see this on a recently sprayed badge.
