The Dilema of expertise..yet if on a forum like this one or the other one if one of those vet collectors share's an opinion..it becomes biblical fact.. tell me if Im wrong. The top edges of the Badges are different although the pins are very similar.

My apologies for interjecting my opinion on me not wanting it. However, look at the top of Josko's badge compared to the pic of yours from Don. Note the smooth "hump" where the top of the hilt is located. Yours is squared off and if memory serves, this is indicative of a bad badge. I don't have the link where this was mentioned, but I will try and locate it and add it.
I stand corrected on the pin, it just looked off to me.

Is there a possibility of getting straight on shots of the front and back?

        Anti-partisan badge

How the heck can you make a judgement on the snake scales without seeing the badge. These are just photo images and in no way compare with handling a badge (any badge). If anyone bought this badge they would have the right to return it. So......what's the problem. Man, this is a tough crowd. I have had about five knowledable dealers contact me that are watching this and finding it quite amussing. I wish I could say the same. There to smart to come on here and stick their neck out.

A shot of the hook as well for comparison! Also looks close to me.

            anti-Partisan badge

This badge is absolutely identical to the badge shown on badge 172 of "German Combat Badges of the Third Reich."

              Anti-Partisan Badge in Silver

I find this very interesting. One of the collectors who was following the discussion on the badge contacted me and wished to purchase it. I was not aware that he had been reading the posts. When I informed him of what was said on the forum he told me he knew all about it but appreciated my honesty in disclosing it.

Hi Gailen, I suspect that they are less knowledgable than you or they think. If they knew their badges they would surely comment.

Badges are here to be discussed, and contributors should not feel pressured on their comments.

I believe there are some fakes in "German Combat Badges of the Third Reich."

To progress the discussion on your badge:-

Josephs badge is completely different from your example, his has no cutouts.
Can anyone post a known or suspected original with exactly the same features as yours (the same position cutouts and raised lip at the top)?

The badge in the following thread has what looks like the same profile as yours:-

Here is mine that I posted several years ago:

                  It's very similar to Gailen's.

                    anti-partisans badge

This will be my final post on this badge. I have had ten private messages from advance collectors asking me why I'm spending my time defending the badge on the forum. The reason is simple. I can't allow what I feel is a good badge to be degraded. I feel an obligation to stand up for it. I've done this and I'm finished. I have maybe two hours of my time envolved in this discusssion. I think that's enough.

In closure, let me point out that Gailen has been very understand and accommodating through this discussion - A top notch person with integrity. I'd also want to thank you all for your opinions. I have turned down the offer to purchase this badge.

To be fair to the seller, please tell us why you feel its good or not. There needs to be some justification I hope.

                      Once again, many thanks, Gentlemen.

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable with that one in my collection.

Regardless of the outcomes of these type discussions ... if you're not sure you can take the opinions of all those that reply ... maybe it's best not to ask for them

This thread should be about the badge discussion, please keep the personal side out of it.

                            No one questioned Gailens credentials.

with your nickle and dime collection of visor eagles, i'd bet most anything you were never a serious customer of this piece in the first place...
keep looking for the one that passes your "standards for exceptional pieces"...
i look forward to your imminent post of the one you couldnt live without, since you are so close to buying one...

this forum was better before you and your 4300 worthless posts..
I am a little late to this discussion, but I will throw in my opinion. First of all there is no call for such a mean spirited post as this. Because someone is not interested in buying a highly questionable badge his whole collection is " a nickle and dime collection of visor eagles" WTF does this statement have to do with anything? The badge tainted itself, it has nothing to do with Military deciding to pass on the purchase. Do you think that the "good guys" of the hobby never have fakes or make mistakes? Military did exactly what the forums are designed for IMO, he asked questions BEFORE spending his money.
To the badge in question, it is a question mark, and far from a one looker. The high quality fakes of this particular semi-hollow type one almost universally share the high protruding sword hilt at the 12 o'clock position to help mask their slightly smaller dimensions due to casting. Details look a little soft on the obverse as well and the cutouts don't look quite right either. It is possible that the badge is an original, as I see a couple of things I do like such as the shear marks on the sides of the pin, however for as much as these pieces cost it will always be prudent to wait for an example without any liabilites. We have come a long way in our knowledge of anti partisan badges in the last year or so, but this badge has always been a favorite of the fakers, making to difficult to arrive at a certain conclusion with some examples such as this one.
If ten people sent pms to Gailen claiming the badge is unquestionably an original, I for one, would like them to share their expertise on what makes this badge a one-looker, as I sure don't see it.
                              best wishes,
                              jeff

I fully agree with everyone. If you have questions about a piece and are uncomfortable with it then you certainly should not buy it. If you don't like it now you can bet in about three weeks you'll hate it. Jeff, your right this has always been a tough badge even for the best badge guys. I also don't like to see anyone smeared on here. When your spending big bucks on a badge it's your right to get opinions.
