Thanks for the additional pics of the hardware. Not the best as you say, but enough to start giving us some clues I think.
The general appearance of the reverse of this GAB reminds me very much of the Hobacher LW flak badges which I will post (from Eric Stahl's excellent collection). The semi-hollow design is very similar to this GAB, as well as the type of finish used.
Also notice that this GAB is a "vienna design", also like the Hobacher GABs. The reverse hardware of this badge is also a good match to the hinge and catch used on the typical Hobacher GABs (Type 1.7.4 in Heukemes GAB book).
I wonder if we are looking at another design evolution of the Hobacher GAB here.....
