    Hi Daniel,

Rubbing those areas feels exactly the same as the more-worn parts, I feel no difference at all. In hand, those areas just look really dark and I am its patina or some other oxidation. If I were to dip this in tarn-X, I think it would all look exactly the same.

Also reading Phil DeBock's PAB book, he specifically mentions on page 35 that early NS Juncker's didn't receive a silver finish. I think we can all agree that he is hands down the most knowledgable collector of PABs and has handled many dozens of these Junckers, so his opinion on the matter is good enough for me. He also mentions on page 47 that the later badges that DID receive a silver finish will always show remnants of the finish in the deeper recess areas. Again, he has handled dozens and dozens of these badge and EVERY one of them had some finish remaining in the recesses. That has also been my experience with badges made with high quality nickel silver or tombak.....no matter how worn the badge is, it will always have remnants of the finish in the recesses.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Spectacular example, Tom! Looks very similar to my NS Junker PAB Like with you, it took me a few years to find one, but it was well worth the wait

Great badge. Congrats, and thanks for sharing it with us!

PS: I'm still searching for a silver Cupal version

Finally able to find an early Nickel Silver Juncker PAB, after searching for one for years now to go along with my early Tombak variant and solid Cupal variant. This one has plenty of patina buildup and although a good bit worn, the wear doesn't detract at all thanks to the nickel silver base metal.

For a hollow badge, I was surprised by the heavy weight and this one puts 20.0 grams on the scale. This is a good bit heavier than the ones in Phil's book, but I can't imagine this one being anything other than original.

      Here are the other dimensions:

      Ht. 60.10 mm
      Width 42.02 mm

What do you guys think, anyone else have a heavier than normal Nickel Silver Juncker PAB??

      Thanks

            Hi Tom,

maybe we can agree to disagree. I had a conversation with a few collectors from my region about the Neusilber badges, and we all agreed that there are traces of finish on these Neusilber badges visible.

In my opinion de Boeck is wrong regarding this.

            Regards,

            Daniel

              Hi Dan,

Yes, we have had this discussion before with many collectors here as well and in hand we were all in agreement that some of these early NS badges never received a finish. Some badges did receive a frosted finish, but others clearly did not based on our collective experience with them.

              Regards

              Tom
