    Thanks a lot Jacques

Is there a posibility to date these pics or put units on them?

With my limited knowledge of uniforms my best guess would be that the first guy was one of Rommels officers in the Afrikakorps. Which would lead me to believe that already in the early war years it was done.

Difficult to tell if the Badge in the first pic is a complete or partial cut out. There is still some silver visible between the wreath and Tank but my guess would be that this is most likely the pin.

Jacques when you say you saw such a badge one month ago was that in another collection and would you be able to get pictures of it? Did it feature a pin or screwback reverse?

    Thanks
    KR

Good job Denis ! Are you always so quick ?
the badge I saw was in bronze with a normal pin and unmarked. It has been sold before I wanted to take a pic. the guy told me that it could be a use in the 24 Pz Div, but can't confirm it.
I know a pic of an EWE badge with the same semi cutout ground.

              Thanks Fred

              Missed that one completely

Anyway that's picture number 7 of the badge in wear. Is there anybody who can tell the unit in which this guy served?

                Hi Philippe,

Here you go... as promised, the albums just arrived today. Looks like there are actually two Cut-out PAB shots in the albums.

I forget where I was reading it, but the thread was along the lines, that the cut out PAB was done to differentiate "Old timers" who had seen more combat than the initial requirements for the PAB from the "Newbies", I dont have a clue if this is true or not. The theory on the thread was thats why the 25 ,50 etc PAB's were issued?

                              The Search Continues

Another example of the cut-out or modified PAB in wear. His name is Werner Heinstadt and he was a member of the lauded Panzer Corps Grossdeutschland serving in the Panzer-Zerstor Regiment GD. I could find very little on this unit's history. Any help, would be appreciated. Unfortunately, all I have is copy of his 25 PAB silver award doc which was issued on April 4, 1945. Unteroffizier Heinstadt saw action in Poland with the 1st Panzer Division, fought through Russia; surviving until the war's end. I do not know when he "transferred" to GD, but he was probably culled from the veterans' ranks near the war's end. His friend certainly loves his watch.
