I warned him, the enemal is destroyed after seconds. Durgol is good for iron buckles, Alu, and so on. But it kills the color of buckles.

One cannot very well leave those contaminates on, it would end up getting eaten up just the same.
I metal detect, and often find coins that have been in the ground far longer than these.
They only cleaning method I use is warm water and a toothbrush - Of course, relic coins are not very comparable to medals, medals are far more challenging.
All in all i think he did a decent job, hopefully he will settle for a method a bit less caustic in the future - Concentrated steam + toothbrush may be an option.
