It is one of those groups that sents shivers down your spine. Josef was wounded five times and ended the war in a hospital in Austria. I would give any thing to find a picture of him. I appretiate the positive comments, Bob maybe you can donate your jaeger m44 with the sniper badge, it does not really fit in your collection Jacques
This group did have it's own thread years ago but has been lost or deleted....I verified a few signatures in it.
Interestingly, it was only the Soldbuch and citations then.....no awards! I also saw it for sale a while back and it had a photo album as well!?!?!?
The signature of the officer against he sniper badge is Oberleutnant d.R. Heinrich Bergerfurth. He won the Deutsches Kreuz in Gold as Kompanie Chef with 6/Grenadier-Regiment 184 on 22.3.1945.
I seem to remember that the same signature was against his EK I entry on page 15?
Of course Gren.Rgt. 184 was part of 86 Inf.Div. along with Inf.Rgt. 167 and 216.......
Ian , you are correct with regard to the unit history. I have got all of that research. Most of his sniper activities occurred in Poland. The previous owner obtained/added the awards later. I am not aware of it ever having been offered for sale with an album or of the existence of an album.. Jacques
Ian, thank you for the link. Funny I had a look at that link not to long ago. Peter does state that he was in possession of some other items belonging to Josef. I will try and confirm with him exactly what they were?
