Not for the faint of heart PAB collector....

I think some of you may remember Robert's thread a month or so ago dealing with the results of a 30-06 bullet and a fake PAB. Robert drilled it and left two clean holes in the badge. A comment was made that a sixty year old zincer would shatter on impact. This got me to thinking. I contacted Robert and asked if he would repeat the test with a period example. He consented and I sent him a massive zince Wurster. The following link will show todays results. Seems Robert if one fine shooter!. BTW, this may be unsettling to any die hard PAB collectors!

    Zinc stinks!

That is awesome. Of all badges, why did it have to be a Wurster?! Haha.

Notice the second shot actually moved the material when it created the second hole. Very cool!

Well, that's one less PAB on the market

      Chad,
Why one less on the market? I intend to list this on e-stand for a absurd asking price!

That is some great shooting by Robert...

I must say that I thought it would break in half but not shatter. Sad to see the PAB go but it was all in good fun and FOR SCIENCE! But maybe we should have used one of my crappy F&R's I got.

Ah! Now I got it! This is the guy who shot the KC presented in Previtera´s The Iron Time! I understand why he chose a fake that time!

Thanks for the sacrifice Chet, in the name of science.

I admit that I was one of the guys that was sure a zink badge would just shatter upon impact. That was based on my snapping one of my close combat clasps in half a few years ago

You could easily see the chrystaline structure of the zink of the clasp, but am surprised to see it hold up so well against a bullet. Great experiment.

Thanks Chet and thanks to Robert Z!

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

I as well thought the badge would shatter due to the zinc becoming brittle...Maybe 65 years is not long enough to harden the badge completely and to some extent the inner core is still malleable.

                      Best Regards, fischer

                        Chet,

Way to sacrifice one for the team and dispel the 'shattered zinc badge' theory. Fun video to watch. Excellent shooting by Robert!

I too, was one that thought this type of badge would have shattered on bullet impact.

                        Thanks Chet!

                        Best regards,
                        Eric

                            OOOOUUUUUCCCCHHHHH
                            Robert good shootin.
Chet give me a day or two and I'll work up a letter of authentification that the poor bastard that was wearing this badge was shot twice before he dropped by the famous Russian sniper Mikhail Surkov, that should add some value to it. We can put it on e-bay for alot of money, people around here are to smart, the good story doesn't sell .

                              Guys,
I was very happy that i could help here. When generally i'm not in favor of blasting original collectibles to oblivion i think in this case it was justified. First we know now for sure that zinc will hold the ground even 65 years later. 2nd, it is obvious that nobody could survive this, so stories about guys saved by their badge are just stories...

Now here is the schedule for the next tests:

next week: German Cross in Silver
                              2 weeks from today: S&L Knight's Cross

                              Thanks to donors!
