I am not at all familiar with Luftwaffe cases so I would like to ask your opinion on this nice case which I recently acquired.

    Many thanks,

Sorry but IMO is a repo case. But see what others say. Clear glue and the insert materal is post WWII.

Early (pre war) pilot case have wooden insert.

But for this particular case, it would be better to have yellowish trace of glue - can we see the top, please

hmm.... early case - not easy to say from pics.

The easy way is to say it is a fake because of the glue BUT I don't go for that for the moment.

                Was a badge inside?

The wood base is hardboard, when was this made and isn't it a resin composite?

                    I don't think...

... this case is a repop. I've spent a lot of time on these and my gut is telling me that this is a good one.
Having said that, I'm sure hoping guys & gals out there are not whole-sale shredding their cases to check the glue color....

Yes it's a paper resin based hardboard. Used in the 60s here in the states for bathrooms and kitchens (withstood water well)

Hardboard was used starting the 60's ??

Thats when it started to be used wide spread,It may have been used earler but I was not around.I have not seen any materal like this used in any german case.I am talking about the pattern on the hardboard. For me I would not buy this as a real case.

                            UV Reactivity?

Does the glue, or any of the inner components glow under a UV (blacklight) Light??

I guess this is the first case of this type you see here in this thread.

None of the flightcases I've ever seen were like this..
That makes it not a fake one in the first place... show me more of these ,please ..

The special type of this case can not easily be compared by the other Luftcases IMO.

So,whether the inlay is original or a replacement I can't say for sure.
Thing is,the material isn't wrong per definition.. it just differs with the rest.

The glue can be wrong maybe ,but maybe it's glued in postwar for the reason it came loose ,was never glued in , whatever..
Or it's replaced....but we can't say for sure the material is wrong..

I can't imagine this is a fake case ,if yes ,show me another..

                              Jos.
