    Fake Heer Flaks in Tucker

    Gents,

A member just showed me an army flak and we had one of those - but it's in Tucker's book moments. So here is a rundown on his Flaks just so we have it out again. I know there are threads on that book, but let me just do this again.

    Page 152-153 - FAKE Juncker

    Page 157 - FAKE Osang

    Page 158-159 - REAL Aurich

    Page 160-161 - Real Juncker

    Page 162-163 - FAKE F&BL

Page 164 - FAKE in a packet (though hard to see)

Thanks Marc. I have searched high and low and was never able to fully create a list of all the fakes in the book.

It would be nice for others to add to the list here, to have them all in one spot.

    Anyone else?

      Thanks Marc.

That is just unbelievable! Makes you really wonder how Tucker vetted the badges in his book. The flak section is not even a very big section, so you are saying that pages 157 - 164 can simply be ripped right out of the book . Quite embarressing to say the least.

Good thing we have a new reference work on the market for flak badges

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

        Marc,

Isn't the badge on page 162-3 a good S&L with a 'supposed' distribution stamp?

Indeed, we have come a long way since that book was published. I can hardly wait untill Phil's PAB book comes out.

              Robert,

That COULD be a good S&L with a bad F&BL stamping, but it certainly is not textbook and it would require an in-hand investigation to really tell.

Thanks Robert. I wonder if the IAB's are all good?

                  Darrell,

I really don't know. The list of badges I provided were gleaned from previous threads on the book after it's introduction years ago.

And that book came out only four years ago...

Anybody hear when Phil's PAB book is due out? Last I heard (was a few months ago) that it was slated for Jan 2009.

                        Hi guys,

His CCC section isn't bad, few things though:

Page 198 & 199 - Questionable JFS badge and finish
Page 203 - Original FLL, but replaced backplate
Page 215 - Fake cellophane CCC packet (but looks like an original S&L CCC)

Here are my list of his other fakes in the book, along with all the ones Robert had:

Page 117 - Original RK GAB, but with fake Assmann stamp
                        Page 86 & 87 - Fake #Panzer
                        Page 88 & 89 - Fake #Panzer
                        Page 90 & 91 - Fake #Panzer
Page 257 - Uboat - Schwerin (is that maker mark correct?)

Chad, regarding the PAB book, I think it will be out a little later than Jan 2009, probably like March or April. Phil puts regular updates on the GCA forum, so keep an eye out over there.

I'll take a look at the Heer Para badges tonight but if memory serves there were a lot of fakes.

Sorry to say, but all the books being written with pride at the moment will be just as heavily criticised by future collectors in years to come, as our knowledge grows.

                              It goes with the territory.
