    James,

Like Bruce said, the deformed leaf is right above the buttstock...

      Hello All

      Thanks for all the comments...

Graeme...I was under the impression that the Oval, Vertical and the Block Deformed Leaf IAB's were attributed to the same maker.

After looking closely at the Vertical and the Block, I can see differences between the two examples. Thanks for the update. Are the Oval and Vertical presumed to be of the same maker?

Here is my Vertical to compare...

          Re: Deformed Leaf IAB

Hi Robert, Bruce ,and guys, I appreciates your help in locating the exact location of the "deformed leaf " in this IAB. Now I see the deformed leaf located just above the rifle butt. I will research on that deformed leaf IAB on the search. I will read the threads on that IAB variant. Thanks much! James

            Hi Fischer

In my opinion the vertical crimp is probably from a different maker to the oval and block badges we are discussing. It is likely that the oval and block are from the same maker as the dies are pretty much spot on.
The vertical crimp differs quite a bit, especially head design and the gap between swas and rifle.
In some makers badges you can see an evolution of set ups, for example from soldered setups to crimped setups, but it does not make sense, in this case anyway, to have two crimped set ups in the evolution.

There is obviously a connection with the three variants as they all have the deformed leaf in their design, but this could have occurred in a similar way to the "vienna" design that is used by many makers.

There have not been too many discussions on these IABs so I am not sure if other IAB collectors share my views. At this level of discussion you pretty much come up with a theory that appears to fit, until proven otherwise. There is not a book out there with all the answers.

Great vertical crimp you have there also

Super badges Robert, the first bronze oval is a stunner.

Here is a bronze vertical crimp

            cheers
            Graeme

I love that chocolate brown vertical crimp. Here's a silver I sold awhile back, a lovely finish...

Oh, go on then. Seeing as everyone is getting in on this I'll post my oval crimped example. Happy days!
