Chris, the ones you are refering to are gilt in the back, and not black as mine.
I cannot recall where but I read somewhere that the black backed ones were post war to be used by the BW, my only concern is the lacking of the inscription. BTW Mine was less than 10€....

This is not an original badge in any ways.

It is an unfinished reproduction from a French guy. The same types are sold on eBay.de for 19 € or so.

Heersbergfuehrer badge

Thanks Mark. Actually, I only collect awards and badges. I have picked up various other bits and pieces along the way but have sold most to concentrate on my real interest which is TR awards.

The only part of the group which I haven't posted is the guy's Narvik Shield which he has mounted on a piece of marble to make a paperweight. This come with his Narvik Shield certificate which is signed by Dietl.

I'll post both tomorrow.

Like I said, nice little grouping. And that's quite a dessert you saved for last!!! Spectacular without the paper, to say the least. If only that marble mount stood 3 meters tall, and the shield proportioned accordingly!!!



And those 'bits and pieces'. For some reason, every time I picked up a tunic, I felt compelled to find a nice matching peaked visor to crown it off. I bought a 'per-regs'/ '38 field modified (with the 'dazzle' removed, cut and tailored) Infantry Officer's Rock, to a DKiG holder. Once I took photos of the name tag, and posted it here, it turns out he commanded IR 494, and was KIA in Russia. And was an RK holder. I searched for just the right EREL for quite some time. Jason sent me two to look at. I went for the one with just the right amount of wear and shape, over minty, to match the tunic. Character.

Wish I had that paperweight to buy a nice Mountain visor for.......

Just found this old thread and want to post a photo of a fallen soldier wearing the Heersbergfuehrer badge.

Its on the outside wall of the Kriegs Kappela on the side of a mountain overlooking Garmisch and I walk up to it every time I'm in town.

Family takes good care. It was changed one time in the 90s ever since it looks the same as on the Picture. He was one of the first HBFs who was killed in the War. Nice Picture

I was at AFRC Garmisch in 1978 and used to pass by that chapel every weekend when I would climb the Grasberg [Schwartzwand, Königstand, ringlebaum, etc.,]; on the way back down stop at St. Martins hüttn (Stammtisch member)! I haven't been there since 1985 -- but plan on going in the next year. I think next time I'll go the few hundred meters over to the chapel.

Ah, the Martinshuette. I remember it well!

When you go to Garmisch make sure you visit the Gebirgsjaeger memorial. You will see it in the distance on the road to Mittenwald.

I certainly shall have a beer for each of you. If it's snowing I'll schlepp a rodel with me and ride it down.

My Stammtisch members were all WWII vets -- but none was a Gebirgsjäger! And they all were "guests" of Mother Russia until 1955 except for Sigi Uhl who was a Matrose at Narvik (after the battle), and my mentor Shaw Ansen. Shaw was a retired US Army captain who retired in Garmisch. Sadly, all have since passed on.

I saw a photo of the current St Martinshütte and there's a photo (red circle) of my friends taken at the Breitenkopfhütte (1936) in Ehwarld, Austria. Later they took me and a friend there. Great memories!

I left my krugl at St Martins in the hopes I could return and use it, but after the owner Walter Schennach died, St Martins was sold and unused items discarded ... arggh.

I'll have a Weizen for all my Einmalige Mitglieder as well as you two!
