      IMO it's just a fake. Many of these were made in the 70's when the Austrian fake TDB's showed up. Tom

        I agree. At least for an official award. Field made is a different story.

            How is this strip assembled? Does it have a steel backing plate that causes it to bow?

            As we've seen with such awards like the Lappland shield, there's no rules for that one, just nerves of steel to buy one outside of a grouping.

            It is almost a cross weave pattern of the underlying gold cloth, of note, the gold stitching that bolsters the edges appears to be more like bullion wire.

              The Silver Aircraft Destruction Badge shown does not have a steel backing plate.

              From a vague outline in the backing material it does appear to have a square, nonferrous plate slightly larger than the airplane.
