Thanks for the pics! However, I cannot recall ever seeing that badge before and I certainly cannot imagine how I could have ever thought that it is an original. That's not even a good fake. Far from an original, and missing many things. Are you sure that you have not confused me with someone else? Anyway, I have never cared for the "L" marked badges,
but I have seen one possible original, so I never say never.
Also, I do recall seeing one original with the oval disc underneath the hinge, but of course it is possible that the hinge could have been replaced, so I wouldn't count on that very much, because it is the
only one.
Chris, I really don't know what to say without stepping on your toes, but perhaps you should read the link (which you apparantly haven't) and start from there
Well, I guess I liked the badge after all! That was three years ago, when I first started studying the Junckers. A Hell of a lot has been discovered since then.
However, it was a great looking repro though, (at the time), and the pictures weren't the best. Don't worry, it is 100% fake and there is no mistaking it now.
Anyway, we ALL make mistakes, but the important thing
is that we fix them and I apologize to everyone for my mistake.
I've found it finally!
I've got in my archives some personal veteran's memories from Rudi Brauer, one of the 10 SS Karstjagers awarded with the BKA in Gold by Himmler.
I quote:
"There were Hitler and Himmler.
We were awarded with the BKA, and in that event we were given some miniatures of that very same badge."
Thanks for looking, I hope I didn't have you spend all holiday searching .
This is a good example of the difficulties finding consensus based on verbal evidence in conjunction with technical and contemporary written regulations.
I believe the 16mm version can be ruled out with the June 1943 regulation, where the 16mm's were banned from production. The BKA was instituted in Jan. 1944, still it was not accounted for in the Nov. 1944 official LDO sales list as a 9mm version in bronze or silver. I guess it's possible that a mini could have been made after Nov. 1944, but plausible, let's just say I'm ambivalent
No worries, that doubt was driving me mad, I had to check my sources!
There are several "Myths" about BKA like BKA rings and BKA pendant for necklace in silver 800, but I tend to consider them fakes.
Different thing are the miniatures, like the one of Infanterie Sturmabzeichen for istance, which I belive were produced, maybe just for the Gold stufe.
By the way, for 9mm and 16mm you mean the stickpin miniatures, am I right?
Correct, I'm talking solely about the 9mm and 16mm stick pin versions. The 16mm version of war badges for wear on chain isn't often encountered, but I believe some types exist.
I take no position on the authenticy of the items pictured but would like to make a comment of the tone of the comments.
In 45 years of collecting I've found that the more someone tells you how much he knows that OFTEN the reverse is true. I've also found that when someone tells you his opinion CANNOT be questioned simply because it's his opinion that that is a waring sign for all concerned.
