      Hi Charles,

Original 1st pattern JFS clasp. The crimping around the hinge is not typical of 1st pattern clasps, but no less original. JFS must have changed the die a bit right before then switched to the 2nd pattern.

Do not take offense to the answers given here, we are all just used to seeing badges like that come from the ground after 60 years. The unique way the zink rots away as well as the dark rust on the steel parts is indicative of the badge being in the ground many, many years. Take vets stories with a grain of salt, many have been fooled by fakes over the years and eyewitness stories are prone to inaccuracies.

      Tom
If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

        Thanks Tom,

No offense taken. I probably went over the top in response to that comment... for some reason it hit me the wrong way. No hard feelings here.

Anyway, I don't collect these Clasps and just wanted to make sure that it was original before i moved it.

Can you estimate the value of this item in this condition?

Is it worth listing, or should i just throw it in a drawer and forget about it?

        Best Regards,

        Chuck

          Chuck,

It is worth something to someone. Its not really collectible in that condition, but I am sure someone would give it a home if it were price right, maybe in the $100 range.

                You are just pathetic
I have never, ever, heard a real war veteran (and I guess I have met more than you have) boasting about that he was one.
You ask about a badge at a collectors forum and get friendly/serious questions/comments and answer with stupid comments about being a war veteran. What has that to do with collecting military items? Nothing! What the hell do you expect? Gain respect?
My experience is that people who has participated in war or other horrible situations, grow as persons. I was obviously wrong.

You are talking to the wrong person, mr. Meyer!
And now you can go on with your stupid and ignorant comments.
I am going to rest my case now.
I don´t think I will get myself understood here... And I don´t think it´s because of my bad english.

Do not agree.. One "over the top" answer started this, and it wasn't Ludwig's!

If you post items for discussion, well, you need to actually let people discuss them!

Chill guys. Charles has admitted going over the top on this one, so lets all just leave it at that and calm down. Lets all just talk about the badge from here on out.

                          Indeed!

I believe it to be an original JFS, but it has seen some action (one way or the other)..
