I think Detlev's photo is crisper in some aspects and Peter's is crisper in other aspects--and I think this is due to lighting/shadowing...that is why we are seeing some details that we do not see on Peter's photo as they are blurred out... but if you look at the backing plate from the front you can see the same areas have rust pattern (upper right and left areas) but they look darkened on Peter's badge...I just think they have been touched up.

Peter...maybe if you can look at the nicks on the pin on both the badge and the photo and find matching nicks/scratches then you can confirm a match?

And, yes Karsten...those are some definate anomolies you have highlighted with the green rectangles...Peter can you see those on the badge?

How would angles/shadowing account for all the differences? The flux stains around the hinge and catch are totally different. There are also other differences on the badge. I think the badge (its a good one) has been paired with a COA to increase its value at some point in time. Forget the COA and just evaluate the badge.

        Hi Don,

I don't really see any differences. All the points circled on the obverse are the same if you look hard enough. The stains on the reverse, especially, can certainly look different with different angles and lighting. When I purchase F&BL CCCs, I specifically look for this staining and sometimes have to hold the badge up to the light and move it back and forth to finally see the staining. Angles and lighting are key when you are comparing minute differences like we are studying in this thread. Just look at the overall obverse pics from Detlev and Peter. 2 completely different lighting sources.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

Thanks Peter for the ekstra pictures. That convinced me, that it is indeed the same badge.

I´m surprised that a badge can look so different just by changing the angle a little.
                    I´m glad for you Peter.

I have taken many thousands and thousands of pictures of badges, as I am sure many of our members have and I can surely agree that camera angles, or simply the way the badge is laying with regard to the placement of the pin (IE leaning towards the left or leaning towards the right), lighting, camera lens opening etc.. can have a great effect on how the same badge can appear quite differently in different photos.
