Does someone have good pictures of the ball hinge HA fake, so we can see details on it?

Yes, it dawned on me yesterday when I was comparing Aurich badges with the ballhinge fakes in detail. It is obvious that these MH badges share the same grass pattern with the fakes, while Aurich's grass is different and remains consistant.
There is only one hypothetical possibility left: ball hinge fakes were made after MH originals. But this is almost neglectible, just a theoretical thesis.
The big question is: Why is this fake so rare? Here is the only other known example. Not less "believable." I even handled both and they are very convincing. Nothing tells you it is a fake except for the grass comparison. They must be old and super-rare fakes.Attached FilesCheers, Frank

All very damming evidence for the existence of the MH PAB.
Still, they are quiet rare, I for one have never had the chance to study one "in hand".
After this thread I certainly won******180;t think about buying one thats for sure, almost certainly the same fake as the ball hinge HA.

This is actually a very good question. We can see from your pictures that these fakes were made in silver and bronze grade, so you would think that someone made more of them. One thing which comes to my mind is that these badges were quickly cursed by collectors 30, 40 years ago and bad boys just stopped making them after limited run...In some irony they could be even collectible on their own right now...

Perhaps because they realized (and collectors too) that MH didn't make that badge. So they looked around for who did (HA for one) and started marking them with that. I'm sure back in the beginning before the liars and cheats got serious people knew whom made what or at least could find out. Today for some reason all the surviving workers have clammed up.Last edited by Don Doering; 07-19-2006, 07:02 PM.pseudo-expert

Just a thought......
......but in the 50's and 60's there were a # of dealers selling supposed high end FAKES(as fakes) in the many gun magazines published here in the U.S. of A. Some had pics and some just advertised through the smaller classified sections. At least one of the sellers stated that his FAKE badges were manufactured using wartime dies. It could well be possible that will little or no sales(as I remember the prices for the fakes were close to the same price as original badges) not many were sold......but then again, who really knows.
Merely something to think about.

Interesting point Bruce, as for me this badge is really really convincing. Granted I am not as well versed with PAB's as I would like but looking at the common denominators of TR badges this one is good. The details are not soft enough to alarm me, the hardware and finish are believable. Had the comparison betwen the HA ball hinge fake and this badge not been made I would likely have been burned on it.
Makes you really wonder if there are other situations similiar to this out there yet to be realized.
