    Hi guys,

Don, I think you have a good point here, and the same can be said for the MH CCC. Its is very rare as well, I only know of 2 in existance. To follow the thoughts of Don, maybe the fakers quickly realized that MH was a nobody and they switch the maker mark to a more well known CCC maker like F&BL. F&BL is one of the more common CCC makers just as HA is for the PAB.

If it doesn't have a hinge and catch, I'm not interested......well, maybe a little

      There are several possibilities:

A few blank fake planchets were sold to someone who just wanted to slip one by, or:

A little trick on the badge collectors making us research and jump through hoops for the amusement of the faker, or:

The sheer pleasure of a faker for slipping one by and getting it placed in a premere collection of all the variants, or even better, in a reference book......just for the amusement of doing it and getting away with it1

There is no lack of imagination ffrom those whose business is to deceive.

I watched a television show about an art forger. His waor was so good that his fakes were in museums and premere collections, all over the world. He revelled in the knowledge that 'experts' treasured his forgeries and they had fooled the very best. he got caught because he continually taunted art experts that they knew nothing and finally admitted to his fakery. His ego was just to great to allow him to continue his criminal forgery, and silently reap the success.

Even in prison, he was doing restoration for many museums and also authenticating for some museums. Of course, how can you trust a crook??????? He may still be snickering, in prison, just to futher obfuscate the truth.

                Thanks, very interesting, Robert!
I cannot say I ever saw a second clasp with that mark. I also have to say that it does not instantly shout "fake" at me, just like the finish on the Panzer badges, everything looks quite believable. This time, a "L******252;denscheid" setup (FLL hinge and catch) was used, again, this would be highly unusual for a Pforzheim based maker.
                Cheers, Frank

There are also fake Luftwaffe Flight Clasps that exist with the incuse-relief 'MH' marking. I haven't seen one in a very long time, but they are definitely out there. About twenty years ago I was at a gun show in Ashtabula and Bob Komorowski had a table full of them. They were all gold grade and most of them had Anhänger attached. All, of course, were fakes.

                        Best regards,
                        Tom

Hmm, it appears that these "MH" clasps are trying very hard to impersonate a few of the more established makers zinc examples.

I'd love to study a few of these in person.
