Hi Sven,
Never seen anything like it, looks like a zinc F&R design IAB to me. Are you sure the missing part just didn't fell of as a result of the zinc rot. This should be easy to tell if you could show us a profile shot of the area between rifle butt and wreath.
I have never seen any type of BH Mayer or F&R design IAB with that part of the wreath missing.

here comes the reverse as from any menbers requested.
As far as I can see it does not made of zinc.
I can regocnise some brass under the silver finish where it has some marks of having been worn.

the finder is searching for ground dugs for 25 years. He said that he was finding these kind of IAB quite a few times. And I believe him. So all of these IABs are rotted away the same way? I don`t think so!

I also do not think something rots PRECISELY away like that without really affecting the immediate surroundings. I must have been made that way. Quite unusual for that design.Cheers, Frank

I did not realise there was more than one IAB like this. I agree it would be strange for all of them to rot away in the same place. I also said it "may" have rotted away, you have it in hand and can see the edges much better than us.
My thoughts were that, for me, it appeared closest to the BH Mayer design and when I compared to one of mine it was very close indeed, apart from the cutout area. Also on the reverse around the cutout area, it appeared to be very pitted...and very jagged just below the trigger.
When you have not seen a particular badge before and it is in a very bad state you try and compare to known badges.
The catch looks similar to those seen on BH Mayers, can we see better pic of hinge? I can't even make out where it is attached.
It would be great to see a couple more shots of the cut out area from different angle if possile.

Hello Sven,
as i allready said an saturday their is a high chance that this part of this B.H. Mayer IAB is rotten away. I know what the finder said about it, but i'm not 100% sure if he was correct because he isn't a expert for the different IABs.
Therefore i think he said that he found alot of IABs in the past (and perhaps alot of hollow ones because in your talk he didn't care in different makers) but he didn't say that he had often found the B.H. Mayer design with the missing leaf.
Until further informations from him I would make a bit question mark on this IAB.Best regards, Andreas
