Robert here is one of my RS PAB's showing the same flaw. This badge sports the angled RS mark.

Reverse with the angled mark. I also have a wide pin with the same die flaw.

          Greg,
Is it slightly scooped on reverse as "thick" RS logo version?

Yes, both my wide pin and angled logo PAB's are slightly scooped on the reverse.

              Dear Robert,

All RS marked PAB's would be slightly scooped. The only flatback PAB's are the:

              *FLL 43
              *Zink massive Porsche
              *Flatback (+ apparently some Rocky's)

Thanks guys for the extra info on RS PAB’s. I’m asking about them, because I never really paid any attention to this type of PAB’s and I have to do some “crash course” on them ASAP.

Very interesting. The fingerprints are certainly there for us to find. Now I need to stare at some Flak badges until I go blind...

Robert, Philippe.this is a little off topic but if you were to speculate what do you think caused the rocky effect? Could it be inadequate cleaning of the die?

                      Dear Greg,

Just to make sure that we're talking about the same thing. The "rocky" refers to the "wave" underneath the gun. In that respect Robert's badge isn't a good example because everythng seem to "wave" in the cut-out of that badge.

On most badges you realy have to look carefully to even notice the wave. What IMO distinguishes a "Rocky" from any other "Wernstein" design PAB is that no 2 of them are exactly alike. This can only be explained if you are willing to accept extensive handfinish to the cut-out area. Remember its also on these Rocky's that we see those "rectangular" saw marks most obvious in the eagles wingtips, also something Robert's example seem to be missing.

Ok thanks Philippe, I thought "rocky" referred to the bulges in the tracks on the left side....which I thought looked like "rocks" stuck in the tracks. Sorry about that, I have much to study with PAB's .

                                Dear Robert,

Your correct, should have looked closer but what I ment is that they aren't present in the area where on other examples they are most prominent: the wingtips.

Anyhow, taken in to account that they are there, there can be no doubt that it's an original "rocky". This makes it even more bizare that it features the RS die flaw. As soon as I get home I'll check the badges in my fiels to see if I can find more
