Hi Bill,
This indeed is a copy. As far as I know these can be traced back to the seventies. You will find them in any "old" German collection all directly aquired from the veteran that lived a bit further down the street.
The original looks like this and there are no exceptions.

Hi,
I'm late to the thread but I can add that an easy way to pick these fakes is the presence of a pair of dimples around the rivets (about 170 degree apart), probably formed by the fake riveting device. The are very apparent on the top left rivet on Bill's friend's example and just apparent on the top right rivet.
