My First Pab

Hello all,

Well, I just picked this one up and after doing some research on the forum I have found that this is what people call a "Zimmerman" example. I have never owned a PAB before and when I held this in my hand it was a great feeling. The details on these things are superb and I feel that I got a good deal at $160.00

Hi William,

Some people probably still call these Zimmermann. Some other people love to call these "Juncker project", others call them Steinhauer & L******252;ck. My conviction: Steinhauer & L******252;ck.
Apart from the Steinhauer & L******252;ck connection where there are indeed several factors to prove this theory, there is no proof or circumstantial evidence whatsoever for Zimmermann or Juncker other than a similarity in the setups of this ONE variant.

A good start for you - right in the middle of the great badge controversy!

Yes, I had read about the Zimmermann or Juncker hinge/catch setup and that's why I thought this one was a Zimmerman. Anyhow, still a great badge and at least I can say that I have one now. Hey, quick question for you all.......what is this badge made out of (metal) and what are the grey spots from? Is this zinc rot or something?

More than likely it is zinc rot, get some vasoline on it and rub it off gently and it should improve

......nice to see you branching out over here to the badges Forum. Very nice looking S&L. Congratulations......reasonably priced too, I will add.

With the vaso treatment I feel it is a good idea to let it sit for 24hrs. before gently wiping it away.

@Frank:I would like to hear the arguments for calling this a late war badge When there is one maker fairly easy to follow in his evolution than it for sure is S&L. Preceding this badge are only the hollow Buntmetal version and 1 zinker with a variant catch. Following it you have at least 5 variants which indeed makes this a midware PAB.

So how much vaseline do I put on? I have started with a thin coat applied via Q-tip cotton swab. How do I remove it, and with what? Please let me know.
