    Hi Ron and Anthony,

unfortunately I lost that thread you mean.

I am not totally sure if the long box like Frank's badge and the bayonet more thin then the wreath imprint are points to said are fakes, I show below a sure 1000% original (come directly from Scherzer's collection, one of the most big collector of III Reich and author of DK BOOK) and now mine, where you can see both, but this is hollow type.

that instead it allows me perplexed in the Frank's badge are the differents on the reverse side => pin-rivets-ears of hinge-hook's closing.

Frank, if this badge is mine, I will return back it, too many problems around it.
Have you ask to Detlev what he thinks about it?

      Hello Ivan,

Let me say first off I'm not an expert by a long shot. But I do remember reading a thread ( reading and not posting because I had no input) about these badges. Now I know the 25 and 50 have lower boxes than the 75 or 100. But from memory I thought the concensus was these were no good. Now I am going from memory and I can be mistaken. But apparently Anthony has the same idea. Of course I'm not trying to bust anyones balls over this, but would actually like to know if this has changed or not. Now yours is hollow so I don't know if this applies to that or not. But I have not heard it called a "variant" and if there is .....why? Were these made in great number? Maybe since were on this maybe others will chime in and give thier opinions. Can someone post a photo ( of one being worn) and maybe we can get some comparisons and go from there. Just a thought.

        Hi,

We need to make sure we keep comparing "apples to apples" here, so comparing Ivan's semi-hollow 75 GAB example with a long box does not make a 25/50 GAB with a long box genuine.

When it comes to the solid JFS 75/100 pattern GAB, Anthony's example is the only example I would be comfortable with. I do not believe in variations on this solid JFS marked badge - zero tolerance on the wreath/eagle details/profile (therefore no low numbered box for me and I don't like Frank's example - I seem to recall which dealer this came from and I did not like it at the time for the same reason), a very tight tolerance on measurements but some tolerance (a few grams) on weight.

When talking about the 25/50 pattern solid GABs, I too believe that the long numbered box examples are very good repros. I apply the same tolerance criteria as outlined above. One interesting thing, having compared textbook RK and JFS marked 25/50 GABs, the obverse of the wreath and the eagles on these badges to me appear to be the same.

I'll load some images of what I believe to be the repro 25/50 pattern RK GAB (the images are not mine, so if the owners of the images object I'll pull them).

        Regards

Another example, not quite as well done as the previous one.

                Hello Mike,
Thanks for chiming in on the thread. I agree with your post. My problem or question was about the solid back JFS 75 and 100. Calling it a variant caught my eye to start with as I was only going by Franks description, since I have a problem downloading his pictures. But it does bring up another question about the makers mark. Isn't the marked slightly off center and not "level" or skewed if that is the right way of putting it. Or could this be either or.

                  Hi Ron,

I don't have a major problem with the marking on Frank's badge. Being slightly off centre to the left and skewed/rotated slighly clockwise seems to be correct. However I've seen 25/50 RK GABs where the maker's mark varies quite significantly to the left or right of centre. I've seen differing amounts of skewing on JFS 25/50 GABs as well. I think minor die misalignment between strikes or runs could be used to explain this so minor variations in the location of the maker's mark is not a huge factor in determining authenticity for me personally - the form of the maker's mark is more important than it's location.

                    Hello IVAN,

As Mike has said I don't think we should cloud the issue with a different style of badge, however I would like to discuss yours in another thread later. it looks interesting.

Mike has said it all, "TEXTBOOK" "TEXTBOOK" "TEXTBOOK". The pics he has posted say it all as well, what ever you want to call them, they are extremely good in all aspects, but not like the real thing.

How could there be two types of numbered GAB by RK and two types of numbered GAB by JFS?

                    Anthony

                      Gentlemen,

I value all your opinios, thanks much. I especially enjoyed to hear from Mike K.. No offense to others but when it comes down to most badges he is my personal forum hero and I found that I can rely on his experience 100% up to now.

I agree it is "most likely" that my 75 GAB from JFS is a copy. At least it is not textbook. While I think it does not always have to be textbook (who´s textbook anyway? I am not fully impressed with ANY textbook so far) in some cases, I agree it should be "textbook" when it comes down to really expensive badges.

I will look for some other opinions and if these are in the same vein, I will then return the badge. It is good I buy these caliber badges only at dealers with a lifetime guarantee.

                      Cheers, Frank
                      Cheers, Frank

Here is an example from Roger Bender's collection. It had the catch repaired so don't pay attention to that. Imagine Frank's catch on it.

                                Jacques,

What a great badge, also a fantastic pic, was it scanned or from a camera?

Here is one more for the record.
