    Dished GAB, uncommon ?

    Hi Guys.
What is your opinion about this GAB, the back seems to have a dish, is this an original one, is it rare because I cannot recall to have ever seen a dished GAB before.

          Hi Den,

Th GAB is original, but this dished variant is a first one for me too. The maker of these badges is unknown so it's really a pitty that we can't see the maker mark on the envelope anymore.

I wonder why they mentioned a grade on the parcel. Since the GAB only existed in silver why was this necessary

May be a good idea to post the packet in the packet forum, I'm sure Marcus and Allan would love to see it. Looks a little strange to me, almost like it was recycled or something. It's a bit small and put together oddly. JMHO

              Hi Greg,

It's only a piece of the envelope, top and bottom were cut-off

                Den,

Yes, please could you post some photos of the packet on the cases and packets forum.

A close up of the printing front and back would be great!

                Thanks,

                Allan

                    Update on this:

GAB and packet are obviously original, I have inspected them in hand. The only logical way to complete the cut maker's mark on the packet is "Biedermann & Co.". None of the other makers match the letters. This maker was located in Oberkassel near Bonn. Präsidialkanzlei-Nr. was 42.
There is a good possibility GAB and packet were always together. No absolute proof, but a good one to keep in mind should we see another packet/GAB combo of this kind.
I will post pics in a minute.
                    Cheers, Frank

GAB obverse, the badge is unworn and near mint.

Rev: Catch soldering seems crude, but is original to the badge. As some of you might know, this GAB type also exists without the dish and as a semi-hollow badge. On almost all the massive badges of this maker, the solder job is extremely crude with a lot of solder used.
